Full job description

We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join our accounting and finance function in the UK. The team is currently responsible for the UK and German legal entities which are subsidiaries of Smartsheet Inc, a US company listed on the NYSE.

The successful candidate will have ownership of large areas of UK and Germany financial reporting and will play a key role in the growth of the UK accounting department. As a member of the UK accounting team, you will perform a variety of tasks from preparing monthly journal entries and preparing balance sheet reconciliations to reviewing invoices and employee expenses. We ask that you have great communication skills, attention to detail, a positive approach, and the ability to operate independently.

You will report to the Manager, Accounting EMEA – based in Edinburgh. This role is remote but you must be willing to travel to Edinburgh once a week for team meetings/events.

You Will:
Prepare and review monthly journal entries including but not limited to: daily bank activity, corporate credit card charges, employee expenses, fixed assets, accruals, prepayments, travel expenses and intercompany.

Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations for assigned areas.

Review invoices and employee expenses.

Be the accounting link to other departments

Play a key role in helping identify and implement improvements in our monthly close process.

Ensure continued development and adherence to internal controls, observing best practices.

Perform ad-hoc tasks as required to support the accounting function.

You Have (essential):
Experience in accounting practice and/or finance functions

Chartered Accountant or equivalent certification

Knowledge of UK GAAP

Strong planning and organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks

A detail-oriented approach, a positive attitude and a desire to learn

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Willingness to accept responsibility

Strong analytical ability and proficiency in Excel

You Have (desirable):
Knowledge of VAT (with experience coding invoices for VAT and filing VAT returns)

Experience performing monthly close activities

Experience developing financial controls and processes

Knowledge of an ERP system (preferably NetSuite)

Knowledge of US GAAP
