Brief Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join the West Coast South Route – E&P Renewals team. Managing projects from Remit to Close Out, repairing and renewing assets to maintain the operational railway for our customers and passengers. The portfolio includes a wide range of assets including OLE, Power Distribution – HV &LV and Conductor Rail.

As a key member of the team you’ll use your communication and decision making skills to manage your portfolio, utilising the expertise of the wider team, to progress the schemes through the project lifecycle. You’ll be well organised, happy to accept challenging and often complex tasks and play a key role in ensuring that the Renewals projects are managed to cost, time, to specified requirements and in adherence to NR standards.

You’ll demonstrate safety through your behaviours, challenging situations observed, identifying trends to address, and supporting the Principal Route Engineer (E&P) in implementing continued safety improvements.

Carry out work as directed contributing to the management of engineering assets to deliver Region and Route goals. Gain experience in all aspects of managing activities consistent with meeting requirements for appropriate professional qualifications and capability to undertake senior engineering roles within Network Rail.

About the role (External)

Every day will be different, but you can expect to be involved in the following activities:

1. Assist with, the inspection and assessment of engineering assets in compliance with Railway Group and Network Rail company standards and procedures.

2. Assist in the monitoring of trends of maintenance work undertaken, asset condition, asset failure and failure precursors to allow appropriate action to be specified.

3. Assist in the evaluation of the output from inspections, examinations and assessments of asset condition to enable renewal/repair proposals to be formulated.

4. Provide technical support in delivering Network Rail’s goals with respect to activities.

5. Proactively seek and obtain knowledge, skills and experience of railway engineering through a combination of working with senior colleagues, on-the-job training, formal training courses, personal research, and attendance at relevant meetings of professional and technical bodies.

6. Prepare regular reports of progress on training and professional development for review by mentors, supervising engineers and other relevant persons.

7. Pursue the achievement of core and specific objectives required by the post holder’s approved training scheme, where applicable, in a timely and effective manner.

8. Maintain a personal development plan and comprehensive records of initial and continuing professional development.

In order to be successful in this role, we would like you to have/to be:

• HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in relevant engineering discipline
• Initial experience in NR Asset Management
• Understanding of relevant policies and standards

We would also like but it isn’t crucial to have/to be:

• Member of a relevant professional institution
• Incorporated or chartered engineer

Salary and benefits:

• Salary: circa £33,000
