About the Role

To support the Accounting Operations Gross Team to deliver the Finance Change project (FTOM) by direct involvement in the project tasks and taking on BAU tasks from other team members to free them up to support the project as well.

About the Department & Team:
Finance in Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM) consists of circa 100 FTE and has a number of key roles:

To partner the business to enhance decision making with a focus on strategy, planning, analysis and reporting. Support is provided both to the three management ‘Pillars’ (London, International and Reinsurance) and to the supporting finance functions within LSM

To ensure that all external financial reporting requirements (statutory, regulatory, tax, capital etc) are fulfilled. LSM consists of a Lloyd’s Syndicate, a UK insurance company with European branches and a number of small service companies

To report to our US Parent on standard monthly requirements and ad-hoc requests on both a pillar and a legal basis

To ensure superior management of our investments, cash and all financial risks

To give finance operations support to the business and finance

Key Responsibilities

Support the Finance Manager to complete month end submission including booking and reconciling of technical and non-technical entries into LSM’s accounting systems.

Support the Finance Manager to complete the reporting requirements for the Insurance Carrier and Service Companies, that is right first time and on time.

Working with the Finance Manager to ensure the completion and submission of monthly US GAAP Reporting within Parent company deadlines for the Insurance Carrier and Service Companies.

Build relationships with local LSM FP&A business partners, Legal Entity Reporting team and US GAAP Reporting teams to ensure deadlines and reporting requirements are met.

Build relationships with local Expense, A/P, Technical Operations, Treasury & Tax teams to better understand the quality & accuracy of US GAAP transactional processing.

Assist the Finance Manager to improve processes by identifying and communicating opportunities to enhance work or address process breakdowns.

Working with the Finance Manager, support investigatory efforts to provide clear and adequately detailed commentaries on company monthly financial statement

Provide clear and relevant ad hoc reports on analytical variances as required

Skills and Experience

Qualified accountant with knowledge and experience of London Market insurance accounting essential

Experience in US GAAP, non-technical accounting and financial reporting

Good understanding of the drivers of underwriting results from both a commercial and an accounting perspective, including an appreciation of actuarial processes and understanding how actuarial estimates translate into GAAP results.

Managing investigations and correction of identified ledger issues

Advanced Excel skills.

Experience with US reporting is a benefit, as is exposure to SAP and HFM.

Knowledge of Liberty’s processes and business is a benefit, but not required
