Job Title: Financial Controller

Location: Office based in London EC1A 7JN

Duration: Permanent/full-time

Salary: Circa £55,000 per annum + benefits

The Worshipful Company of Information Technologists, the 100th Livery Company of the City of London, is looking for a Financial Controller to join its team. Our membership is drawn from all areas of information technology and we aim to promote fellowship, education, support of the IT industry and charitable giving.

We are looking for a confident, proactive and enthusiastic individual to administer the financial operation of both our Charity and our Livery company. This will include the preparation of monthly management accounts, annual budgets, statutory financial accounts, VAT returns and gift aid claims. You will act as Company Secretary for our Charity and be the first point of contact for our investment managers on both the Charity and Livery investment portfolios as well as liaising with our auditors. You will be responsible for the processing and collection of all membership subscriptions, charitable donations and payments relating to our busy programme of events. You will provide meeting management support to our Investment and Audit Committees. As a formally qualified accountant (ACCA/CIMA/ACA ) with extensive experience of financial and charity accounting, you will work closely with our Chief Executive Officer and Honorary Treasurer on all aspects of our finances. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a small dynamic team and is keen to make their mark in supporting the aims of our Charity and Livery company.

The role is a full-time position, based in our offices in London

As Financial Controller, your daily duties will include:

  • Preparation of annual, monthly and periodic budgets, forecasts, and cashflow statements
  • Operation of purchase and sales ledges
  • Operation of payroll system including payments to third parties (HMRC, pension, life assurance and healthcare providers)
  • Calculation and submission of VAT returns
  • Processing gift aid claims
  • Processing and collection of annual membership subscriptions and payments relating to events
  • Preparation of annual statutory accounts in accordance with current accounting standards
  • Preparation and submission of annual returns to HMRC, Companies House and the Charity Commission
  • Liaison with auditors and investment managers
  • Preparation of reports for various committee meetings; meeting management for Audit and Investment Committees + Livery AGA and Charity AGM
  • Maintenance of operational documentation

To be a successful, you will have the following skills and experiences:

  • A formal accounting qualification (ACCA/CIMA/ACA)
  • Well versed in charity accounting
  • Experience with Sage accounting software is desirable
  • Strong IT skills including experienced in the use of Microsoft Office suite, in particular Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good people skills
  • Well organised, logical and detail focused
  • A willingness to work flexibly when required
