We are currently recruiting for an Equine Welfare Team Leader for our Rehabilitation Yard.

Salary: £30,679 – £33,117

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, 8am – 4.30pm (including only every other weekend)

Location: Bransby, Lincoln LN1 2PH

Contract: Permanent

Bransby Horses is a large, progressive equine rescue and welfare charity, set in the beautiful Lincolnshire countryside. The Bransby Horses Equine Welfare teams provide all of the day-to-day needs of our equine population, consisting of over 350 equines, across 7 specialist yards. Each team provides a unique purpose crucial to the charity’s ability to provide sustainable care to rescued equines in line with the charity’s vision, values and strategic aims.

The Team Leader at the Peter Hunt yard will work closely with other Team Leaders and the Farm Management Team as well as independently; organising the day-to-day activities of the yard which cares for around 50 horses and ponies, of which all receive individual training plans to ensure progression within the equines handling status. The Team Leader will lead and develop a team of around 10 Equine Welfare Assistants; effectively managing the rota and problem solving to ensure the physical and behavioural needs of all equines are met. This includes routine treatment and always keeping in mind, equine ethology, the individual health and psychological needs of the horses. You will be regularly assessing Quality of Life and be involved in making end of life decisions whilst supporting the team with this.

The ideal candidate will have significant industry experience and demonstrable skills and experience both working with equines and supervising a team of people to enable them to perform at their best. They will have practical experience in equine associated health conditions and comprehensive knowledge of the management systems for these. They will understand the importance of following policies and procedures and be an excellent communicator with experience of leading and developing a team as well as the ability to role model enthusiasm, positivity and flexibility. The ideal candidate will have a intertest in Equine Behaviour Science and Ethology and will ensure the team work with an understanding, yet an awareness of each equine as an individual.
